The case was reported and investigated by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, but no arrest was made, as the suspects involved in the murder were reportedly moving freely on the streets with illegal protection.
Subsequently, the case was transferred to Federal Anti-robbery Squad, Adeniji Adele, Lagos, which led to the initial arrest of one Murtala Aweniya, alias Horsepain, on April 17, who was charged to court. However, his arrest led to the arrest of Jamiu Adedumoye, who hails from Okeraregba area in Ogun State.
During interrogation, he opened up and revealed that he participated in the APC rally at Oshodi where Eniola, a.ka. Esi-Oluwo, was murdered. He furthered revealed that he was armed with a "2by2” plywood, which he used to hit the deceased on his body before other gang members attacked him.
He was charged to court on a three-count charge of conspiracy murder, and unlawful assembly under Lagos Criminal Code. The presiding Magistrate, Ms Abimbola Awogboro, reprimanded him in Ikoyi Prison, while the case was adjourned till December 14.
