Electric wire kills 8 yr old girl resulting from Abuja Electricity Distributions staff's carelessnes

An eight year old girl, Faith Yakubu has been killed by an improperly disconnected electric wire left on the ground by a staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Anguwan Dodo, Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory.

The unfortunate incident occurred when a staff of AEDC disconnected the wires feeding the residence of one of its consumers over alleged non-payment of accumulated electricity bills and the disconnected electricity wires were carelessly left loose on the ground without disconnecting the source of electricity supply from the transformer.

The electricity distribution company was found guilty of the offence and fined the sum of ₦18million by the regulatory authority, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The child was electrocuted along with a four-month-old boy she strapped on her back at the time of the sad incident.

The Commission said little Faith had, unknowingly grabbed the naked wires with her bare hands in an attempt to cross over them while running an errand for the parents.
