Aged couple found dead at home by police in a suspected murder-suicide

An elderly couple have been found dead in their home in a suspected murder-suicide. Neighbours raised the alarm about the couple's welfare, and police later discovered the body of a 69-year-old woman and a man, 70.

Police are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area and a forensic examination and searches are taking place at the property. A village resident, who did not wish to be named but said he heard about the deaths last night, said: "It surprises me to think it took place in this village.

"No further details have been released about how the deaths occurred since the couple's bodies were found on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose, of Devon and Cornwall Police's Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "This investigation is at a very early stage and enquiries continue to establish the circumstances around the deaths.

"However at this time we are not looking for any other person in connection with this incident."

A spokesman added that scene enquiries were likely to continue over the weekend and no formal identification has yet taken place. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 101.
