The Hisbah spokesperson said the board’s officials screened the suspects after the arrest, and released those identified to be first time offenders on bail.
Those who were found to have committed the offence of ‘immoral acts’ multiple times were referred to the legal department of the Hisbah Board for further action.
“All the 31 arrested suspects were females and mostly teenagers. Our men were able to arrest these girls at Sabon Gari area in Kano at about 3 p.m. on Monday.”
“We screened them and immediately released those who were first-time offenders on bail while those who are habitual offenders were referred to the legal department for further legal action. We always encourage good deeds and discourage bad ones.”
He further stated that if the parents of the girls refuse to come forward and claim them, the state will be forced to charge them to court for proper prosecution.
