Released Ekiti lawmaker, Hon Afolabi Akanni to return to heroic welcome

The lawmaker representing Efon constituency, Hon Afolabi Akanni, popularly called ‘Afo Garanto’ will return to Ekiti state today after he was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja for over two weeks.

According to a statement by Alhaji Ademola Bello, special adviser (political matters) distributed to journalists, the lawmaker will arrive the state in company of Governor Ayodele Fayose. The statement urged all supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to converge at Fajuyi Park by 12 noon to give the lawmaker a ”heroic welcome.”

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives had summoned Lawal Daura, the director-general of the DSS, over invasion of the Ekiti state assembly. Daura ignored the lower house. Their counterparts in the Senate had also on Wednesday, March 9 directed its committee on national security and intelligence to conduct an investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the action of the DSS. The committee is yet to come out without its findings. Media reports yesterday, March 23, suggested the lawmaker was released by the DSS because of his deteriorating health condition.

Hon Afolabi Akanni was admitted in a private hospital yesterday after he was released by the DSS.
