16 people burnt beyond recognition in Kogi fatal auto crash

Sixteen people have reportedly burnt to death in a fatal motor accident that occurred along Lokoja-Abaji Expressway in Kogi state, on Friday, August 5. The sad incident occurred when a commercial Toyota Hiace bus heading towards Kano and a SUV going to Benin, the Edo state capital had a head-on collision at the Alewu village end of the strip. Only one person survived the accident.


Sources informed that the accident was caused by violation of road traffic rules. The sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi state, Mr Ugboma Ugochukwu, while confirming the accident, told newsmen on Sunday that the victims were buried at the accident scene. He explained that the only survivor, who sustained minor injuries, had been discharged from the hospital.
